The opportunities included jobs, skills training and welfare advice.

After an initial two-month "try out" people were interviewed by phone about the service. One described the service as “a simple way of contacting people quickly to let them know what’s going on their area.”

Half of the group passed on the messages, either by forwarding the texts or by word-of-mouth.

All of the residents agreed that the service should continue.

The Creation Trust on the Aylesbury Estate in South London began to use Thumbprint in the same way, with more than 200 people turning up at an employment showcase event they organised.
